American Autogard - Power and Transmission Couplings and Torque Limiters

Autogard Series 200 Torque Limiter

The rolling action of the Autogard 200 Series Torque Limiter eliminates the inaccuracies of shearing and friction devices, giving positive protection against overloads and jams.

With a pedigree extending over 30 years, the 200 series of torque limiters has developed into a very flexible and cost affective range of torque limiters and available to suit most drive combinations.

No other device can match Autogard's versatility, accuracy and reliability. It can be fitted in many positions in the drive train, but for maximum protection, as near to the final drive as possible.

Series 200 Torque Limiter Selection

Method - Data required for Torque Limiter Selection:

Horsepower / Kilowatts and rpm of the drive

Shaft details of the driving and driven equipment

1) Calculate the maximum Torque as follows: Torque (Nm) = kW x 9550 / rpm or Torque (in-lbs) = H.P. x 63025 / rpm

Consideration should be given to starting torque particularly if the torque limiter is positioned close to the motor. This may be up to three times the normal running torque.

2) From the table below choose the unit size and spring code required for this calculated torque taking into account the maximum bore of the unit.

Torque Adjustment: The unit will be dispatched from our factory with the torque setting requested. Calibration spacers are supplied to prevent this setting being exceeded. If no specific setting is requested, a spacer is fitted which will prevent adjustment over the maximum capacity of the spring.

The spacers also help to position the disc springs correctly.

In case where requirements are difficult to calculate with a reasonable degree of accuracy, the recommended commissioning procedure would be to try to start the drive with a low torque setting, progressively tightening the adjusting nut until the unit will start and drive the mechanism without disengaging. Before attempting to turn the adjusting nut, ensure that the locking screw is loosened and is relocked after final adjustment.
